“James Cameron” is a nickname from the collector scene, not an official Rolex name; Rolex itself calls the dial “D-blue”. According to the specialist press, its gradient from blue to black is meant to evoke seawater, which grows darker with increasing depth because sunlight penetrates only so far. Reference 136660 features a 44 mm Oyster case in Oystersteel, a unidirectional rotatable 60-minute bezel with a black Cerachrom insert and an Oyster bracelet. It is powered by the in-house calibre 3235 with a power reserve of approx. 70 hours. According to rolex.com (archived 22.04.2026), the 136660 D-blue is currently in the catalogue.
References and distinctions
The D-blue dial appeared in 2014 with reference 116660-0003, which was produced until 2018. From 2018 to 2022 it was followed by the 126660 in D-blue, and since 2022 the 136660 has carried this dial, including as 136660-0003 and 136660-0005. The specialist press describes a connection to James Cameron, although it mostly refers to “D-Blue”. The D-blue dial alone is decisive for the nickname – Deepsea models with a black dial are not included.
