(5 items)The company Zenith was founded by George Favre-Jacot in 1865 in Le Locle, Switzerland. But the manufacture did not receive its definitive logo and the world-famous name Zenith until George, after producing a particularly fine movement, compared the night sky to a movement.
Zenith, the highest point of the universe - that was to be the new name, for he strove for the highest precision and indeed achieved it. Fittingly, he chose the famous five-pointed star as the logo. Since then, Zenith has stood for a true star in the sky of watch manufactures, a status it has retained to this day. In 1969, Zenith won the race against other renowned manufactures with the famous El Primero movement and, as the first manufacture, presented an automatic movement with an oscillation rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour. The El Primero movement has since become an icon of modern mechanical watchmaking. Numerous further developments have given the movement, which today is mainly used in the Chronomaster collection, the status of a legend.
