Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon: The Moonwatch in Black Ceramic

With the Dark Side of the Moon, Omega introduced a Speedmaster in 2013 whose case is crafted from black zirconium oxide ceramic. The name alludes to the far side of the Moon, the design to the Moonwatch: the tachymeter bezel and the chronograph function remain, while the case is noticeably larger at 44.25 mm. Ceramic is scratch-resistant, lighter than steel and keeps its deep black colour permanently.

Automatic chronograph or skeletonised manual movement

Most models in the family are powered by Co-Axial automatic calibres from Omega's own manufacture, visible through a sapphire caseback. The Apollo 8 editions, by contrast, use a skeletonised hand-wound movement whose surfaces recall the cratered landscape of the Moon – a tribute to the first crewed lunar orbit in December 1968.

Within the family, the models differ mainly in dial, indexes and accent colours: from the all-black Black Black to the Apollo 8 editions with yellow accents.
