Agassiz was the watchmaker, while the other two were watch dealers who sold the models at fairs in Europe and thus earned the brand a good reputation. In 1862, Ernest Francillon took over and bought premises outside of Saint-Imier where he built his manufactory. Already in 1889, the watches were so good that Longines felt itself forced to have the name protected at the Federal Office for Intellectual Property to prevent imitations from flooding the market. This makes the label the oldest protected watch brand in the world. Many legendary models come from the manufactory such as the thinnest electromagnetic movement worldwide. Particularly famous is the Lindbergh Hour Angle watch, in whose development the famous pilot himself had been involved.
