More likely, however, it is the great dedication, unparalleled tradition and passionate precision that account for this prestige. Discover the Junghans wristwatch from the Black Forest:
A watch through time: history and reputation
Significant milestones in a company's history are followed by public recognition, the respect of competitors and a growing worldwide reputation. Junghans not only enjoys an excellent reputation among watch connoisseurs, but is probably the German premium watch par excellence around the globe.
More than 150 years have now passed since Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law Jakob Zeller-Tobler founded a small company in Schramberg in the Black Forest. What began in 1861 with the production of individual parts for watches quickly expanded into the company's own movements. This important area of watchmaking is still carried out in-house today. After Erhard's early death, the company was first run by his widow, then by his sons. By the end of the 1870s they were already producing alarm clocks based on what was then an advanced American model, which led to a massive increase in the workforce and the factory buildings. The logo still in use today, the eight-pointed star, was introduced in 1890 and adorns Junghans wristwatches to this day. The once small company grew steadily and at the beginning of the 20th century was one of the largest watch manufacturers in the world. Following its extremely successful alarm clocks and pocket watches, the company also turned to wristwatches in the 1930s, whose precision and style quickly made them sought-after timepieces.
Mechanical, quartz, radio-controlled – 3 technologies, one standard: precision!
Reservations do not take up much space in the philosophy of the Baden-Württemberg brand. The aim is to help shape the future of the modern watch without losing sight of the company's own tradition. In the range of the Black Forest watchmaker, enthusiasts will find wristwatches with mechanical / automatic movements. Numerous models with quartz movements or radio-controlled solar movements can also be found within the Junghans Collection, Meister and Max Bill lines. The portfolio is completed by the Erhard Junghans series as well as the Form and Performance collections. In addition, all of the company's lines offer both men's and women's watches. Radio-controlled time setting, solar-powered energy supply and watches that are becoming smarter are becoming more important year after year. The Black Forest manufacture has undoubtedly recognised this trend and takes it into account with radio-controlled solar watches in various collections.
Wristwatches that meet every demand
Whether Max Bill or Meister line – the analogue wristwatches and chronographs from the Black Forest attract attention. To this day, the precious and unusual small luxury watches are made in Schramberg in the Black Forest and are sent from there all over the world. This was already the case in 1970 with the first German quartz wristwatch, the Astro-Quarz, and continued in 1986 with the world's first radio-controlled solar watch, the RCS1. The first radio-controlled wristwatch from 1990, the MEGA 1, is also an event that has a firm place in the history of watchmaking. To this day, the company is inimitably masterful when it comes to light-powered radio-controlled quartz watches, and currently demonstrates this in the Junghans Collection with the Milano, Force and 1972 lines. Partly solar-powered radio-controlled movements can also be found in the Aura Quadra, Spektrum and Voyager series.
The Junghans Collection
The focus of the Junghans Collection with its numerous watch lines is the further development of technology leading to absolute precision. Not only Junghans men's watches, but also numerous women's watches have found their way into the range. With the 1972, consisting mainly of chronographs, the company recalls its participation as official timekeeper at the Olympic Games of that year. Here, the look of the seventies has been reinterpreted in a modern way in sporty watches with extremely lively dials. By contrast, the Aura Quadra ladies' watch presents itself minimalistically in all black or white. The Aura Quadra allows itself a single accent – and more is not needed for such a fine watch – with its brilliant-cut diamonds serving as exclusive indices. Milano ladies' and men's watches, on the other hand, present themselves as modern dress watches with Italian charm. Force ceramic watches are modern dress watches. They focus on technology, favour black and only like subtle contrasts. No less technically sophisticated and a timepiece for every occasion, the Voyager completes the Junghans Collection, which we summarise for you here once again:
- 1972
- Aura Quadra
- Force
- Milano
- Spektrum
Meister
Both the women's and men's watches have repeatedly set trends and, along the way, also tell the company's history. The Meister Collection, for example, often pays homage to watchmaking in Schramberg and extensively celebrates the more than 3000 patents Junghans has registered to date. The Meister owes its name to the company's own definition of masterpieces: it is about preserving the aesthetic form despite new technical achievements. The manufacture has cultivated this philosophy for more than 100 years. Clearly, only over such a long period could a very distinctive design culture emerge, at the centre of which stands the Meister Collection with a wide variety of classic wristwatches. Often it is the typical features, right up to complications, that give the watches of the Meister Collection their series names. Good examples are the Meister Kalender, Meister Chronometer or Meister Handaufzug. The motif of designs reminiscent of the 1930s recurs again and again. The Meister Agenda, for instance, has remained in the portfolio largely unchanged in appearance since its launch in 1936. Much newer in the range are the Meister Pilot and the Meister Driver. Here, too, Junghans offers what watch lovers need. Pilot's watches and wristwatches for motorsport fans impress with charisma and capability. The Meister Collection is diverse, high-quality, technically state of the art and aesthetically classic:
- Agenda
- Automatic
- Chronometer
- Chronoscope
- Classic
- Damen Quarz
- Driver
- Handaufzug
- Kalender
- Gangreserve
- Mega
- Telemeter
- Pilot
- Worldtimer

Max Bill watches
Constructive clarity is the concern of Max Bill's work. The universal genius began his existence as a design icon as a student of Walter Gropius. As a representative of the Bauhaus idea, the designs of the painter, sculptor and architect Max Bill were to be used in many different directions. His pragmatism, which leads to elementary designs, also comes into its own in the Max Bill Collection. The watch line has remained virtually unchanged visually and equally undiminished in success and popularity since its launch in 1961. Junghans men's and women's watches designed by Max Bill are very popular and are especially loved for their pure look. Some watches for men and women polarise, pleasing some while others do not like them. The Max Bill Junghans men's watch with classic manual winding, on the other hand, is a watch about which there are no two opinions, as its clarity is undoubtedly appreciated by all.
Junghans Form
Finally, the Form Collection combines the simple beauty of Max Bill watches with modern technical achievements. In every form, these young classics are worth a look:
- Form A
- Form C
- Form Damen
- Form Quarz
- Form Mega
Junghans ladies' watches
As with almost all major manufacturers devoted to horology, the fan base of female watch lovers is also growing. Junghans ladies' wristwatches are particularly popular because of their classic look. These include not only the ladies' watches of the Junghans Max Bill line, whose small automatic and the model with manual winding are particularly popular. The Junghans Form Damen presents itself fresh and feminine and, with a diameter of 24 mm, clearly belongs to the pure Junghans ladies' watches. Smaller here, in turn, is only the Max Bill Damen with a diameter of just 32.7 mm. With the Form A, the Form Collection also includes a unisex model which, with a diameter of 39.5 mm, is one of the large Junghans ladies' wristwatches. Established women take a middle path in terms of a Junghans ladies' watch with the Milano Solar for her and its 37 mm diameter.
