Passionate work from the Micro Artist Studio
The birth of every Masterpiece takes place in Grand Seiko's Micro Artist Studio, where it is assembled separately from the larger Heritage collections, Elegance, and Sport. A small team is responsible for its creation, consisting of around ten of Japan's best watchmakers, who refine the Masterpiece models to perfection with traditional tools. The unparalleled dedication of these artists becomes apparent not only in the elaborate hand engravings of the platinum and gold cases, but also in the beautiful dials.
Their sharpness and expressiveness are unrivaled in today's watch world. Even under multiple magnification, every Grand Seiko Masterpiece is marked by absolute flawlessness. The selection of luxury watches is small but exciting: the Limited Edition (50 pieces) marking the 140th anniversary of the Seiko company shines in a blue starry sky, whose several layers of color create a three-dimensional effect. Other models feature a majestic diamond setting and appear in worldwide small series of 10 to 15 pieces.
Spring Drive with 8 days of power reserve
Grand Seiko enjoys worldwide renown for its symbiosis of mechanical winding and electronic regulation system in Spring Drive technology. The Masterpiece takes the hybrid system to a new level and combines it with a spectacular power reserve of eight days, which results from the interconnection of three barrels. The movements have no complications, in order to preserve the aesthetic purity and harmonious symmetry of the Masterpiece collection. All models are classic three-hand watches whose second hand glides across the dial in a perfectly flowing motion.
The story of Spring Drive begins in 1977, when engineer Yoshikazu Akahane dreamed of a mechanical timepiece with previously unattained precision values. Until the project reached market maturity in 2004, 28 years passed full of determination, hundreds of prototypes, and countless setbacks. The result speaks for itself: luxury watches with Spring Drive are the only ones at all that can adequately convey the continuity of time.
